Quarto Front HouseThe history of a Nightmare on Dundas St. actually began in 1995 with the purchase of a heritage home on 4260 Dundas. Tony (Quarto’s) love for Halloween and horror movies encouraged him to start decorating which now has expanded in to the entire front yard, fence and house(outside and in). They were the first to introduce dozens of cornstalks to their décor. A lot of props have been weathered to authenticate the setting and additions such as the 12 FT scarecrow and a large tombstone from the movie industry and so much more. Seven years ago(2007), son Francesco decided to create a large wood framed room in the backyard, complete with body parts, blood soaked linen and candles that created a scary scene. A graveyard with dug up holes and an overturned wheel barrow along with body parts and special lightning added to the night of horror. That night Francesco greeted the public and observed as people were taking photographs and complimenting him on the displays. This sparked something inside him which has become unstoppable. The following year 2 rooms and a connecting hallway have now turned into a 1200 – 1300 Square foot haunted house. The house is built with 2×4 wood, a complete frame construction and plywood for the roof. Several rooms, dark corridors and dozens of props add to the attraction. As a graduate from the Vancouver Film School, and his love for horror films, his creativity has allowed him to create new scenes with the floor plan of the haunted house. Picture 2Along the way close friends have helped to create the haunted house into the city’s largest and scariest private event. With live actors, special lightning effects, smoke machines and several props, it has become anticipated event by the Community and Lower Mainland. For the last 3 years they have been accepting donations to the B.C. Children’s Hospital recently raising over $2,000. This event attracts on average a thousand trick or treats and thrill seekers of the haunted house on Halloween. They are usually in the local Burnaby Now and Vancouver Sun/Province. Or you can follow them on facebook, Instagram and twitter to keep yourself updated on their progress. With no end in sight, the Quarto residence and friends look forward to providing you with an experience of a lifetime on Halloween!
